FITC-dextran sulfate is dextran sulfate sodium labeled with FITC, where the sulfur content is between 16 to 19%. All batches are checked for molecular weight, degree of substitution, sulfatation, loss on drying and free FITC. FITC-dextran sulfate is supplied as a yellow powder.
Structure
Dextran is a branched polysaccharide elaborated by the bacteria Leuconostoc mesenteroides. Dextran is essentially a linear glucose chain linked by α-D-(1 – 6) linkages. The degree of branching is about 5 %. Dextran sulfate is manufactured by treating a selected dextran fraction with a sulfating agent (e.g. chlorosulfonic acid). The dextran sulfate is then labeled with FITC.
Spectral data
FITC-dextran sulfate has an excitation maximum of 490 – 495 nm and an emission maximum of 520 ± 5 nm.
Storage and stability
FITC-dextran sulfate is stable for more than 6 years when stored dry in well-sealed containers at ambient temperature.
Solubility
FITC-dextran sulfate dissolves readily in water.
