Carboxymethyl-polysucrose (CM-polysucrose) consists of polysucrose (renamed from Ficoll™) substituted with carboxymethyl groups thereby imparting a polyanionic character to the product. TdB Labs produce CM-polysucrose with a mean molecular weight of 70 kDa. All batches are checked for molecular weight, degree of substitution and loss on drying. CM-Polysucrose is supplied as a white powder.

Structure
Polysucrose is a high molecular weight sucrose-polymer formed by copolymerisation of sucrose with epichlorohydrin. The molecules are highly branched, and the high content of hydroxyl groups leads to very good solubility in aqueous media. In CM-polysucrose, the carboxyl content is approximately 5% which is equivalent to about one CM-group for every five glucose and fructose units.
Storage and stability
CM-polysucrose is stable for more than 6 years when stored dry in well-sealed containers at ambient temperature.
Solubility
CM-polysucrose dissolves readily in water.
Application
CM-polysucrose is often used in hydrogels.
